This Nautilus-inspired house was built by Senosiain Arquitectors for a couple in Mexico City. It's amazing. It has to be seen to be believed, so after the jump there will be a ton of pictures. My wife told me that if our next house isn't one of these, she will divorce me. I said to her, are you lying or not lying?
Inspired by the nautilus shell, the house is made entirely out of gunite, a type of cement, using a technique that involves attaching a two-inch-thick composite concrete to a steel rebar framework, making the structure earthquake-resistant and maintenance-free.
Before I saw this, I would have never thought I'd want to live in a giant seashell, but now I do. Who are the people who sit down on the weekend and say, "Honey, let's start building a house that looks like a sea shell"? Duh, "Let's begin construction" means go kill the world's largest nautilus and live inside its shell.
