Due to the "attack" of a cold air mass in recent days, many places will experience drizzly weather. Early this morning, I received a call from a homeowner in Hangzhou asking about issues to be mindful of when renovating during the rainy season. Here, I will organize for everyone some key points to keep in mind when renovating during the rainy season:

**Maintain good indoor ventilation**

On rainy days, not only is the air humid, but the air pressure is also low. Therefore, during construction, all doors and windows should be kept open to ensure good indoor ventilation. This not only benefits the health of the workers but also helps walls, floors, and wood dry out more quickly.

**Wall Renovation**

**Extend drying time when applying putty**

Before painting the walls, you need to apply putty, usually requiring 1-3 coats. Normally, the drying time between each coat is 1-2 days. However, on rainy days, use a dry cloth to wipe away moisture from the wall to keep it as dry as possible. Additionally, depending on the actual weather conditions, try to extend the drying time for the putty, ideally to 2-3 days.

**Do not paint during rainy days**

For wooden products, whether applying clear varnish or brushing nitrocellulose lacquer while doing mixed oil finishes, remember not to paint on rainy days. On such days, the surface of wooden products tends to accumulate a layer of water vapor. If you paint at this time, the water vapor will be trapped under the paint film, causing the wooden surfaces to appear cloudy and unclear. For example, brushing nitrocellulose lacquer on rainy days can lead to uneven coloration, while applying regular paint may result in whitening.

If you must adhere to a tight schedule, you can add a certain amount of whitening powder to the paint. According to professionals, whitening powder can absorb moisture from the air and speed up the drying process, but it may also negatively impact the quality of the work. Therefore, in general, even if you let the construction team do other tasks or temporarily halt work for two days, it's best to avoid doing paint jobs on rainy days.
