China’s economic development is rapid, but the development of energy production lags far behind. Therefore, the energy required for economic development should be solved more by energy conservation. China has a vast territory, a large population and a huge scale of construction projects, among which residential buildings account for about 92% of construction projects. With the great improvement in residents' economic conditions, residential construction will show an upward trend for a long period, and this upward trend will continue for 20 to 30 years.

From this, it can be seen that China's residential construction is in a stage of rapid development. However, we must clearly see that the rapid growth of China's large-scale residential construction is achieved at the cost of high consumption of resources and energy. In addition to using land as the most direct resource, the growth of residential energy consumption is a major limiting factor in the development of residential construction. At present, due to the relatively poor thermal insulation, heat preservation and air tightness of buildings in China, the heating energy consumption per unit of residential building area is three times that of developed countries under the same climatic conditions. Specifically, it is reflected in poor heating quality (that is, uneven indoor temperature), poor system thermal efficiency, not only consuming several times more energy, but also users cannot adjust the room temperature by themselves. Currently, heating fees are charged per square meter, which does not help enhance users' awareness of energy conservation, thus causing some abnormal phenomena such as opening windows when the room temperature is too high and complaints when the room temperature is too low, making design personnel and owners try to increase the capacity of boilers, pumps and radiators, resulting in repeated waste of low efficiency and high energy consumption. The current energy consumption structure of China's buildings is not very reasonable, and coal is still the main source of building energy use, with a very small proportion of renewable energy used in building energy applications. High energy consumption for heating not only causes waste of resources, but is also an important factor in atmospheric pollution.
