If there are emergencies such as sudden illness or accidental injury in the family, the first-aid at the first time is very crucial, which is related to whether the follow-up treatment is smooth and effective. Therefore, the first-aid method must be scientific and reasonable to avoid going into误区. Experts from the Emergency Department of Lanzhou University Second Hospital expressed that incorrect first-aid methods are mostly due to lack of common sense. Regarding family first-aid, the following several mistakes should be avoided.

1. Comatose patients should not lie supine but should lie on their side to prevent oral secretions and vomit from being inhaled into the respiratory tract causing suffocation. Never feed or give water to comatose patients.

2. People who have been electrocuted should not be pulled by hand. If someone is found to have been electrocuted, the power supply should be immediately cut off, or use a dry wooden stick, bamboo pole or other insulator to pick up the wire.

3. Diarrhea patients should not take antidiarrheal drugs indiscriminately. Using antidiarrheal drugs before inflammation elimination will make it difficult for toxins to be discharged, aggravating intestinal inflammation. Antidiarrheal drugs should be used after using anti-inflammatory drugs.

4. After abdominal trauma with internal organs prolapsed, they should not be immediately repositioned. The prolapsed internal organs must be thoroughly disinfected by a doctor before repositioning to prevent infection leading to serious consequences.

5. Tourniquet ligation should not last too long. The tourniquet should be relaxed for 15 minutes every hour and recorded to prevent ischemic necrosis of the distal limb due to prolonged ligation.

6. Small but deep wounds should not be carelessly bandaged. Experts from Lanzhou University Second Hospital expressed that careless bandaging after being stabbed by a sharp object would cause wound hypoxia, leading to the growth of anaerobic bacteria like tetanus bacilli. The wound should be cleaned and disinfected before bandaging, and tetanus antitoxin should be injected.

7. Patients with cardiogenic asthma should not lie flat because lying flat increases pulmonary congestion and cardiac burden, worsening shortness of breath and endangering life. A semi-reclining position should be taken with the lower limbs hanging down.

8. Patients with cerebral hemorrhage should not be moved arbitrarily. If there is sudden fall into coma during activities or paralysis caused by cerebral hemorrhage, there may be cerebral hemorrhage. Arbitrary movement will worsen the bleeding. Lie flat, raise the head, and send to the hospital immediately.

Any first-aid treatment is not the ultimate measure, so the 120 emergency number should be dialed within the first time of the onset. Experts from Lanzhou University Second Hospital reminded that reasonable family first-aid can only buy time for timely treatment.
