Hypoplasia of the uterus, also known as infantile uterus, refers to a condition where the structure and shape of the uterus are normal, but its size is smaller. Additionally, the cervix is relatively longer, and it may be accompanied by dysmenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, or even primary or secondary amenorrhea. Hypoplasia of the uterus is often an important cause of infertility, accounting for approximately 16.2% of infertility cases. So, what are the symptoms of uterine infertility? Below, experts from Guangzhou Air Force Logistics Hospital will introduce them to you.

Symptom One: Uterine Hypoplasia

Uterine hypoplasia is also called an infantile uterus, which generally refers to the situation where, after puberty, the uterus remains smaller than normal. Simple micro-uterus is not necessarily a direct cause of infertility; however, if the ovaries are also underdeveloped, this becomes the direct cause of uterine infertility.

Symptom Two: Uterine Malformation

Whether uterine malformations affect fertility depends on the type and severity of the malformation. These patients usually have no obvious symptoms, but some may present with primary amenorrhea and menstrual disorders, such as oligomenorrhea, hypomenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, or dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Others may show signs of underdeveloped reproductive organs and breasts, such as sexual infantilism, breast and secondary sexual characteristic developmental disorders, ovarian dysfunction, and anovulation. Some patients may conceive but are prone to miscarriages, premature births, abnormal fetal positions, abnormal placental locations, or stillbirths due to the inability of the uterine cavity to expand accordingly.

Symptom Three: Intrauterine Adhesion Syndrome

Adhesions in the uterine cavity, isthmus of the uterus, and cervical canal caused by trauma followed by infection, such as injury during curettage, are included. It also involves specific infections like tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, amoebiasis, and actinomycosis, clinically presenting with amenorrhea, hypomenorrhea leading to infertility.

Symptom Four: Endometritis

Endometritis can be classified into acute and chronic based on the duration of the disease, and into tuberculous, sexually transmitted, and general bacterial types based on the infecting pathogen. Endometritis is often caused by ascending infections from external vaginal infections. Due to the congestion, swelling, and large amounts of inflammatory exudation of the endometrium, along with large numbers of plasma cells and lymphocytes in the interstitium, these changes can affect sperm movement and the implantation and development of the fertilized egg. Of course, the inflamed endometrium cannot provide sufficient nutrition for the implanting ovum, and the inflammatory exudate also has a spermicidal effect, causing infertility.
