Vitiligo is an extremely difficult skin disease to cure. Patients with vitiligo need to take good care of their skin. So, what are the differences between how vitiligo patients care for their skin and how others do? Below, please allow the vitiligo experts from the Third Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Shanxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine to explain how vitiligo patients should clean their skin.

How should vitiligo patients clean their skin?

1. If there are residual fatty medications on the skin surface, they can be wiped off with plant oil. If powdered medicine or dressing has dried and tightly adhered to the skin, a gauze soaked in sterilized isotonic saline solution should be applied first until it softens before being peeled off or wiped away. If there is adhesive tape stuck to the skin, cotton balls soaked in gasoline should be used to gently rub it off before cleaning the skin.

2. Keep the skin clean: Cleansing the skin with warm water at 32-34°C is more effective, as it will not cause an imbalance in the skin's oil and water secretion. It also has a calming effect on the skin, which helps the skin rest and relieve fatigue.

3. When there is a large amount of purulent secretion on the affected area, wipe it first with hydrogen peroxide-soaked cotton balls or a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution, then apply appropriate topical medication and bandage with gauze. If the secretion on the affected area is serous, wet dressings can be used or Huanglian oil can be directly applied.

4. Hair around the affected area should be cut off before wiping or applying medicine.

5. When the epidermis of the affected area forms a scab or the scab is attached to the hair, medicine should not be applied directly onto the scab. First, apply non-irritating ointment on the scab and then bandage it. After 24 hours, remove the bandage, the softened scab will fall off. Then cut off the hair and apply medication according to the condition.

6. When pus blisters have formed on the affected area, disinfect the surrounding area with 75% alcohol, then cut off the blister wall before applying medication. For large blisters, after disinfection, cut the blister wall to release the liquid content without removing all the blister walls. If a large blister has already burst, remove the blister membrane and then apply medication.

7. Avoid skin injury: Even small skin injuries should be treated promptly to prevent secondary infections.

The above is an introduction by the vitiligo experts from the Third Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Shanxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine on how vitiligo patients should clean their skin. Vitiligo has a significant impact on the physical and mental health of patients. For vitiligo patients, timely treatment is the guarantee for recovery.
