What are the symptoms of bedsores by stages? Bedsores occur due to prolonged bed rest, localized tissue pressure, impaired blood circulation, neurological nutrition disorder, and continuous skin ischemia that leads to ulceration and soft tissue necrosis. The common areas for bedsores to develop are places without muscle and fat protection, such as the sacrococcygeal region, hips, elbows, inner and outer ankles, and heels. Bedsores are more commonly seen in patients who are comatose, paralyzed, elderly, frail, malnourished, or have been bedridden for a long time. When patients lose control of their bladder or bowels, the buttock skin is frequently exposed to moisture or wrinkled, uneven bed sheets, as well as contact with food residue, making them highly susceptible to bedsores. Timely understanding of the symptoms of bedsores by stages facilitates early diagnosis and treatment. Below, Director Zhao Jianlin from Shanxi Taiyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Bedsore Hospital will introduce these symptoms!

Bedsores are divided into four stages:

The first stage is the瘀blood stasis erythema phase. Redness, swelling, heat, pain, and hard lumps appear on the skin surface. During this stage, multiple measures should be taken to change body positions and prevent continued pressure on local skin. Locally, 50% alcohol massage can be used to promote blood circulation. Massage should involve tightly adhering hands to the skin, with pressure gradually increasing and then decreasing, performing circular massage.

The second stage: inflammatory infiltration phase. Swelling worsens, the skin turns purplish red, blisters form on the epidermis, and the patient experiences pain. In this stage, nursing care involves disinfection with 75% alcohol, followed by using a disposable syringe to make a small incision at the lower edge of the blister, allowing exudate to flow out or be suctioned out. Then apply gentian violet with cotton swabs, expose the wound, and promote its dry healing. Infrared irradiation treatment can also be used. Perform circular movements around the blister with your thumb, massaging outward from the bedsore center.

The third stage: superficial ulcer phase.

The fourth stage: deep ulcer phase. This stage requires hospital treatment.

What are the symptoms of bedsores by stages? I believe everyone has understood. Prevention of bedsores is more important than treatment. The method of preventing bedsores is to avoid prolonged localized pressure, turn the patient regularly, preferably every 2 to 3 hours. Frequently massage the pressured areas; if necessary, use air cushions or sponge pads to lift the pressured areas, especially the sacrococcygeal region. When moving the patient, actions should be light and quick, avoiding pushing or pulling the patient. Change bed sheets regularly to keep them clean, smooth, and dry. After bowel movements, promptly clear feces and urine, wash with warm water to avoid local stimulation and prevent triggering bedsores. It is hoped that everyone can timely prevent bedsores.
