Which drugs can treat bedsores? Bedsores (also known as pressure sores or pressure ulcers) are caused by prolonged pressure on local tissues, leading to sustained ischemia, hypoxia, and malnutrition, which in turn result in tissue necrosis and ulceration. If bedsores are left untreated, complications may arise. Therefore, timely treatment of bedsores is very important. In recent years, some common old drugs have been used for the prevention and treatment of bedsores, achieving relatively satisfactory results. Next, Director Zhao Jianlin from Shanxi Taiyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Bedsore Hospital will introduce these drugs to everyone!
Which drugs can treat bedsores? Here are ten relatively simple drugs for treating bedsores:
1. Seven Li Powder
After cleaning the wound, sprinkle Seven Li Powder on the sore, then bandage it with oil-soaked gauze and sterile dressing, changing the dressing once daily. After about 3 days, the exudate will significantly decrease until the sore heals. If the dressing becomes wet with exudate, it can be changed.
2. Double-ingredient Throat Wind Powder
In addition to routine bedsore care, spray Double-ingredient Throat Wind Powder on the sore three times a day until healed. Among 34 cases treated, anti-inflammatory treatment was given simultaneously for Stage II, III, and IV bedsores, with a course lasting 3-14 days. The total effective rate was 82.4%.
3. Anti-inflammatory Hemostatic Powder
Mix 2-5 grams of Anti-inflammatory Hemostatic Powder, 2 grams of Debriding Powder, and 1.5 grams of Yunnan Baiyao thoroughly, store in a bottle for later use. Clean the sore with saline solution, then sprinkle the powder on the affected area and bandage it, changing the dressing once daily. The shortest healing time was 9 days, and the longest was 34 days.
4. Yunnan Baiyao
Dissolve an appropriate amount of Yunnan Baiyao in 75% alcohol to form a thin paste, then apply it with a cotton swab 3-4 times a day. For Stage II and III bedsores, follow aseptic procedures to extract the fluid from the sore, clean the wound, then apply Yunnan Baiyao, covering it with sterile gauze and changing the dressing every other day. The overall effective rate for Stage I, II, and III bedsores was 100%.
5. Burn No. 2 Ointment
The main ingredients of this ointment are Huangbai and elm bark, which have certain antibacterial effects. After the alcohol evaporates, a protective film forms on the sore, reducing exudation and promoting dryness and new granulation tissue growth. For Stage I and II bedsores, spray the medicine evenly on the sore 4-6 times a day, exposing the sore and preventing pressure. Generally, healing occurs within 3-4 days. This medicine should not be used if skin blisters burst and expose the wound due to its alcohol content, which can be irritating.
6. Metronidazole + Gentamicin
Routine disinfection of the skin around the bedsore, rinse the wound with hydrogen peroxide and saline solution, and remove superficial necrotic tissue. Use a sterile gauze soaked in metronidazole and gentamicin original liquid (5:1) to cover the wound, then cover with another layer of sterile gauze and fix with adhesive tape. Change the medicated gauze twice daily based on the exudation of the wound to keep it moist. Most bedsores are infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli. Combined use of metronidazole and gentamicin enhances their antibacterial and bacteriostatic effects.
7. Bactroban Ointment
The main ingredient of this ointment is mupirocin, a new type of antibiotic. Usage: For second-degree bedsores, generally with blister formation, cut the blister under aseptic conditions and disinfect the wound with 0.2% iodine. For third-degree bedsores, clean the wound with saline-soaked cotton balls, rinse with hydrogen peroxide and 0.9% saline solution, then disinfect the wound with 0.2% iodine. Apply Bactroban Ointment evenly on the wound, cover with sterilized petroleum jelly gauze and sterile gauze, and fix with adhesive tape. Change the dressing every 1-2 days.
8. Agkistrodon Antithrombin
Take 0.25-0.5 units of this drug and add 10-20 ml of saline solution, mix well, soak a sterile gauze, disinfect the skin around the bedsore with 75% alcohol, rinse the wound with saline solution and hydrogen peroxide or remove purulent secretions and necrotic tissue, then wet-lay 3-4 layers of the medicated gauze, cover with a thin layer of sterile plastic, and fix with adhesive tape. Change the dressing 1-2 times daily. Healing usually occurs within 4-5 days.
9. Insulin + Gentamicin
Routine disinfection of the skin around the wound, clean the wound with saline solution, irradiate the wound with a lamp for 20 minutes (about 10 cm away, tolerable by the patient), place 8 units of insulin and 80,000 units of gentamicin on a small piece of sterile gauze, cover the wound, then cover with saline-soaked gauze, and finally with dry gauze. Change the dressing daily.
10. Tincture of Iodine
Tincture of iodine has strong bactericidal and astringent effects and can stimulate local vasodilation, enhancing blood circulation, improving local nutrition and resistance, and promoting tissue repair. Apply 2% tincture of iodine externally three times a day for three consecutive days to form a thick protective layer on areas prone to bedsores, increasing skin resistance and effectively preventing bedsores. For existing bedsores, apply 2% tincture of iodine externally twice daily. Combine with wet-laying gentamicin-soaked gauze for better therapeutic effect.
