Since the beginning of March, several hospitals in Fuyang city had successively received patients with a disease characterized mainly by fever accompanied by rashes on the mouth, hands, feet and buttocks. In a few cases, there was serious brain, heart and lung damage. On March 27th, the first pediatric patient died; on March 29th, the People's Hospital of Fuyang City reported the situation to the Health Bureau of Fuyang City and the Municipal Disease Control Center; on March 31st, the Health Bureau of Fuyang City reported to the Health Department of Anhui Province. On April 15th, the Health Department of Anhui Province sought help from the Ministry of Health. The first group of epidemiological, clinical, and testing experts dispatched by the Ministry of Health arrived at Fuyang on April 16th, and by April 23rd, they had ultimately determined that this disease was caused by infection with enterovirus EV71.
