Regarding the origin of the name Tianguanyin, it is said that during the Qianlong period, there was a tea farmer named Wei Yin in Anxi who was a devout Buddhist. He would offer clear tea to the Guanyin Bodhisattva every dawn without fail for several decades.
One night after Wei Yin went to bed, he dreamed that the Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared on the cliff of the back mountain.
