US Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who suffered serious injuries in a shooting about two weeks ago in Tucson, Arizona, was transferred on January 21 from the University of Arizona Medical Center to a specialized hospital in Texas for further rehabilitation treatment.
According to reports, Giffords' husband and mother accompanied her during the transfer. Giffords is currently in good condition; she is very alert, has attempted to speak several times, and has already been able to stand with the help of medical staff.
According to Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, the decision to transfer her was based on two reasons: first, the hospital they are transferring to has extensive experience in helping patients recover from brain injuries, and second, the hospital is very close to their home, making it convenient for visits.
On January 8, Giffords was shot in the head by a man with a pistol while meeting with constituents outside a supermarket in Tucson. Six people were killed in this shooting incident. (Source: Point Hoi Forum http://qqnba2.uueasy.com)
