What is the true nature of prostatitis? How should we perceive and handle it? In fact, prostatitis is the most common urological disease among men under 50 years old, and ranks third among urological diseases in elderly men. In fact, it is a general term for a series of diseases, including four categories:

1. Acute bacterial prostatitis is rare, but its symptoms are severe when they occur. Symptoms may include high fever, chills, anal or perineal severe pain, as well as frequent urination, urgent urination, and painful urination. Digital rectal examination can find that the prostate is significantly swollen and tender. Based on the above symptoms and urine test results, a diagnosis can be made. During acute inflammation, drugs easily penetrate into the prostate, and targeted use of antibiotics works well.

2. Chronic bacterial prostatitis mainly manifests as frequent urination, urgent urination, increased nighttime urination accompanied by painful urination or lower abdominal and perineal pain discomfort, with a longer course of disease. Abnormal elevation of white blood cells in prostate fluid and bacteria cultured can confirm the diagnosis. Blood tests and B-ultrasound, X-ray films, even CT scans, and magnetic resonance imaging have little use. Since it's difficult for antibiotics to penetrate into the prostate during chronic inflammation, treatment is relatively difficult. Relatively speaking, new fluoroquinolone drugs have the strongest penetration. Treatment takes a long time, and there is a certain possibility of recurrence.

3. Chronic pelvic pain syndrome is the most common, but our understanding of it is also the least. Its symptoms are similar to those of chronic bacterial prostatitis, but no pathogenic bacteria can be found in the prostate fluid, so there is no special therapy available yet. For some patients with abnormal elevation of white blood cells in the prostate fluid, antibiotics may have a certain effect. Drugs that relax smooth muscles on the prostate and treatments that relax pelvic muscles are more commonly used. In addition, plant-based drugs and Chinese patent medicine preparations also play an auxiliary role.

4. Asymptomatic prostatitis has no uncomfortable feelings at all, and only occasionally finds signs of inflammation in the prostate fluid during examinations, usually requiring no treatment.

Severe prostatitis can cause some people to experience male sexual dysfunction or infertility, and affect normal daily life, causing great distress to patients.
