Small details in men's lives may lead to serious diseases. So, what exactly should we pay attention to in our daily lives? Here are four things that should be avoided:
1. Avoid: Tight-fitting triangular underwear
From a physiological structure perspective, since the male testicles are located outside the body, the scrotum that wraps around the testicles will continuously regulate temperature so that sperm is produced and stored at a temperature approximately 2℃ lower than inside the body. Generally, the temperature of the testicles needs to be maintained at 35℃ for normal sperm production, and only at this temperature can sperm remain full of vitality. Both excessively high or low temperatures will affect the function of the testicles.
If men wear tight-fitting triangular underwear, it will cause the scrotum to be fixed tightly against the abdominal cavity, thereby limiting the scrotum's ability to regulate temperature. At the same time, if the testicles are constantly close to the warm abdominal cavity, whose temperature is higher than the temperature required for the normal functioning of the testicles, it will result in impaired spermatogenic function, leading to infertility. Additionally, if the underwear fabric is made of synthetic material with poor breathability and heat dissipation, it will keep the scrotum in a sealed state, where air does not circulate, bacteria easily proliferate, causing urinary tract infections. Over time, it will result in poor sperm quality and low motility.
2. Avoid: Sitting on the toilet for extended periods
In modern daily life, many people have the habit of sitting on the toilet for long periods while reading books or newspapers. Urologists indicate that sitting on the toilet for extended periods is an unhealthy habit that particularly affects male physiological health. Since defecation is a reflex action involving coordination between the brain and the defecation center as part of a systemic movement, if one sits on the toilet for too long reading, they might ignore the urge to defecate, causing the entire defecation process to become uncoordinated, resulting in a feeling of suppressing the urge to defecate. This makes the rectum lose sensitivity to fecal pressure, leading to difficulty in defecation, which then leads to dry stools, and over time forms habitual constipation.
Experts state that for men, this unhealthy habit is especially harmful to the prostate. Due to prolonged sitting on the toilet extending the defecation time, the lower abdomen and pelvis tend to accumulate blood, causing varicose veins in the rectum and anus to form hemorrhoids; simultaneously, chronic constipation causes blood flow in the prostate to be obstructed, worsening symptoms of prostatitis. Not just sitting on the toilet for long periods, various other long-term sitting activities in men's daily lives can also affect the prostate. Activities such as sitting at computers, playing mahjong, and long-term cycling easily cause congestion in the perineum of men, accumulating stagnant blood, thus leading to hemorrhoids and worsening symptoms of prostatitis.
3. Avoid: Strong tea, coffee, carbonated drinks
In terms of diet, men should try to stay away from "unfavorable" items. Urologists indicate that several "popular drinks" currently available are unsuitable for men.
Firstly, tea, especially gongfu tea. This is because tea contains components like theophylline, which easily excite the prostate, prompting the prostate vessels to become sensitive and active, thus easily triggering inflammation of the prostate or recurrence. Generally speaking, the stronger the tea, the higher the rate of inducing prostatitis.
Secondly, coffee, which also contains components that easily excite the prostate, often causing enlargement of the prostate. Men who drink too much coffee usually experience a feeling of unsmooth urination.
Thirdly, carbonated drinks, which have been listed by foreign nutrition experts as part of the "junk food" category. Carbonated drinks, aside from sucrose, contain very few other nutritional components. Most carbonated drinks add carbon dioxide, citric acid, lactic acid, etc., which place the human body fluids in an acidic state, whereas the human body itself maintains an alkaline state. Therefore, carbonated drinks do not actually help eliminate fatigue and can easily interfere with the alkaline state of male semen. Experts specifically warn that the combined effects of acidic substances, additives, preservatives, and caffeine in carbonated drinks can, to a certain extent, reduce sexual ability and limit sperm activity.
As for alcohol, it easily causes toxicity in the sex glands, damaging spermatogenic cells, inhibiting the synthesis of male sex hormones, reducing androgen levels, and leading to decreased sexual function or even erectile dysfunction.
4. Avoid: Electromagnetic radiation
For men, it is especially important to avoid sources of electromagnetic radiation, as determined by their physiological characteristics. In daily life, large electrical equipment and home appliances with electromagnetic radiation are everywhere, including televisions, induction cookers, microwaves, office computers, mobile phones, etc., all emitting strong radiation.
Electromagnetic waves acting on the human body directly produce electromagnetic induction, thereby interfering with the activity of receptor enzymes on cell membranes, causing cellular morphological variations and kinetic damage. Long-term exposure to electromagnetic radiation can lead to reduced activity and quantity of male reproductive cells and sperm.
Men should especially avoid electromagnetic radiation because male chromosomes are more fragile compared to female ones, making them more prone to changes in the immune system. Furthermore, male reproductive cells and sperm are more sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, as men, one should try to minimize opportunities for contact with electromagnetic waves. Even when contact is unavoidable, one should maintain a certain safe distance, generally more than half a meter.
