According to the latest medical reports, the "2010 China International Andrology Academic Summit" sponsored by the Chinese Medical Development Research Association and the Male Specialty Committee of the Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine will be held in Beijing from April 9 to 11, 2010. Medical experts believe that the public's demand for health is gradually increasing, and reproductive health is an important part of the health field. Especially for men who are busy with work and under heavy pressure, being plagued by male diseases not only affects family harmony but also hinders social harmony. Therefore, improving awareness of male health and preventing diseases should start from small things.

1. Unrestrained indulgence

Irregular and excessively frequent sexual activities force the prostate to overwork, keeping it in a long-term state of congestion, thus easily leading to prostate hyperplasia or enlargement. Indulgence makes men overly tired, reducing their body's resistance. If they do not pay attention to genital hygiene, bacteria may cause ascending infections, leading to prostatitis.

2. Frequent masturbation

Masturbation helps men relieve some high-tension sexual impulses and accumulations, making it a very normal physiological behavior. However, if it is not restrained, such as masturbating three times or more daily, besides causing fatigue and decreased immunity due to excessive indulgence, the prostate can become exhausted from too frequent tension and relaxation as well as excessive secretion discharge, easily resulting in a decline in its regulatory capacity.

3. Drinking too little water

Water is the source of life. A person's normal daily water requirement is around 4-5 liters. Besides the water content in food, one needs to drink an additional 4-6 large glasses of water daily. Lack of water reduces urine output, making the urinary tract prone to blockage and making it difficult for the prostate's secretions to be normally discharged. This increases the burden on the prostate and makes it more susceptible to bacterial attacks.

4. Harmful stimulation from tobacco and alcohol

Studies have found that men who smoke long-term have a five times higher chance of developing prostate enlargement and chronic prostatitis after the age of 40 compared to non-smokers. Additionally, excessive drinking and consumption of spicy and stimulating foods like chili peppers make it easier for the prostate to experience prolonged or repeated excessive congestion leading to inflammation, often sterile prostatitis. Therefore, for their own health, men should quit smoking and abstain from alcohol.

5. Negative emotions

When stimulated by factors such as tension and anxiety, the secretion of the prostate increases, muscle contractions strengthen, and at this time, men may feel discomfort in the urethra, experiencing increased urination. Many men with chronic prostatitis often exhibit psychological tension phenomena such as distress, anxiety, fear, and anger. In situations of excessive fatigue, tiredness, and anxiety, their prostate problems become more severe. Therefore, attention should be paid to emotional regulation in daily life.

6. Dislike for vegetarian food

Contrary to eating spicy foods, a light diet can reduce the burden on the prostate. The daily diet should include more vegetables and fruits to reduce the occurrence of constipation and lower the risk of prostate congestion. Water intake should not be excessive; from seven or eight o'clock in the evening until bedtime, water intake should be minimized or avoided altogether. Avoid eating watermelon or drinking caffeinated beverages to prevent urinary retention which could cause a full bladder to press on the prostate, leading to congestion and obstruction.

7. Eliminate "office syndrome"

Men who remain seated for long periods are prone to pelvic congestion, which can lead to prostate congestion, swelling, and subsequently result in prostate enlargement or inflammation. Every office worker should get up and move regularly, with intervals not exceeding one hour. Additionally, men should develop the habit of regular exercise, which can enhance physical immune function and improve blood circulation, both of which can reduce the chances of prostate disease.
