During sexual intercourse, some couples may experience a few instances of poor performance and start to doubt their sexual ability, often hastily labeling themselves as "impotent." In fact, no one knows what's happening to their own body better than themselves. Therefore, they can often make an early judgment about whether they are impotent or not, but the key is to master some common knowledge for self-assessment.
Below, I will introduce several methods for self-assessing sexual ability:
1. Onset situation: Pay attention to whether the occurrence of erection difficulty is sudden or gradually worsens without notice. The former is often caused by psychological stimulation, while the latter usually indicates the presence of organic problems.
2. Sexual response characteristics: Patients whose libido is basically normal, have relatively quick erection responses, unstable duration of erection, sometimes cannot insert into the vagina, have basically normal sexual pleasure, less frequent sexual intercourse compared to before, and have basically normal erection reactions during masturbation, tend to have mild weakening of sexual function, mostly due to psychological factors or the initial stage of organic diseases. These conditions often improve or recover through psychological adjustment, sexual technique consultation, or simple drug treatment. Conversely, those with opposite situations may have more severe sexual dysfunction, often caused by organic diseases or serious mental health abnormalities, and need medical attention as soon as possible.
3. Morning erection situation: Those who frequently experience satisfactory morning erections are often affected by psychological factors; whereas those who lose morning erections or have very unsatisfactory erection hardness are often caused by organic diseases or severe mental health disorders.
4. Duration of sexual dysfunction: The longer the duration of sexual dysfunction, the more severe the condition, and the greater the possibility of organic problems. Short-term sexual dysfunction might just be a temporary issue, and relaxation is recommended because tension and anxiety are important causes of psychological sexual dysfunction.
5. Diseases and medications: Diabetes, hypertension, mental illnesses, etc., can all pose serious threats to male sexual function. The longer these primary diseases persist, the more severe the damage to men’s sexual function, and the more difficult it is to treat and recover. Long-term use of large amounts of antihypertensive drugs, certain antibiotics, sedatives, other psychiatric medications, etc., can significantly suppress men's sexual ability.
6. Unhealthy lifestyle: Excessive drinking, smoking, overwork, troubles, depression, difficult interpersonal relationships, and strained economic conditions, as well as the duration and severity of these factors, are important reasons for causing male sexual dysfunction and making recovery difficult.
