Today, I will introduce a term to everyone: prostatitis. But first, I need to tell you what the prostate is. It is a male-specific sexual gland organ. The prostate is shaped like a chestnut, with its base upward and adjacent to the bladder, its tip downward reaching the urogenital diaphragm, its front side attached to the pubic symphysis, and its back side close to the rectum. Therefore, when there's prostate enlargement, a digital rectal examination can be performed to palpate the back of the prostate. In the middle of the prostate gland, the urethra passes through it. In this sense, the prostate guards the upper opening of the urethra. Thus, when the prostate is diseased, urination is affected first.
Prostatitis refers to acute or chronic inflammation caused by specific bacterial and non-bacterial infections, leading to systemic or localized symptoms. Below, I will give a detailed introduction to the symptoms of these two types of diseases, so you can check if you have prostatitis.
1. Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis
Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis is caused by pathogens such as mycoplasma and chlamydia, which stimulate widespread congestion in the prostate and cause inflammation. Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis is very similar to other conditions, also manifesting as systemic and local symptoms. This type of chronic non-bacterial prostatitis often presents with symptoms of neurasthenia, including poor mental state, memory decline, dizziness, insomnia, depression, emotional instability, fatigue, etc.
2. Chronic bacterial prostatitis mainly manifests as:
Systemic symptoms: easy fatigue and weakness, lower back pain, additionally, it can easily lead to neurasthenia, mental tension, memory loss, dizziness, and insomnia.
Local symptoms: discomfort during urination, mild urinary frequency and urgency. Moreover, there may be erectile dysfunction, low libido, premature ejaculation, and nocturnal emission.
