March 3rd of each year is the National Ear Care Day, which was established by ten departments including the Ministry of Health in February 2000.

Ears are one of our organs to perceive the world. Most people only notice their existence when looking in a mirror. One day when we suddenly can't hear, we realize that ears also need care. Bad living habits in daily life are increasingly harmful to ears. Below are detailed introductions of several types:

1. When the nose is uncomfortable, many people have the habit of randomly grabbing a tissue, covering both nostrils and blowing hard.

This may damage the ears. There is a Eustachian tube connecting the ears and the nose. When blowing both nostrils together, the pressure inside the nose may cause secretions to flow into the sinuses or middle ear, causing otitis media. Otitis media can be mainly divided into acute otitis media and chronic otitis media, and they can further be subdivided into purulent otitis media, bone ulcer type otitis media, cholesteatoma type otitis media, etc. The treatment methods vary for different types of otitis media.

2. After each Spring Festival, there will be many patients whose hearing has decreased due to the instant noise from firecrackers.

Experts warn that the loud noise from firecrackers may lead to blast-induced deafness. Citizens must protect their ears when setting off firecrackers, and they can wear earmuffs or cover their ears with hands.

3. Listening to MP3, talking on the phone for long periods, staying in noisy environments like KTV booths can cause ear fatigue, tinnitus, and irreversible hearing loss.

Experts suggest that teenagers should not listen to MP3 for more than one hour each time and the volume should not be too high; "phone marathons" can also harm hearing, and the call duration should not exceed 30 minutes each time; it's also unscientific to use tissues to cover both nostrils and blow hard when the nose is blocked. At this time, the pressure inside the nose may cause inflammatory secretions to flow into the sinuses or middle ear, causing otitis media; not treating upper respiratory infections in time is also an important cause of ear diseases in children and teenagers. Therefore, teenagers and children should also have their hearing checked regularly each year.

4: Can you randomly clean your ears when they are dirty?

The ceruminous glands in the ear canal produce a greasy secretion that appears yellow, commonly known as earwax. It protects the eardrum and usually falls off naturally after drying. If you find a large accumulation, do not randomly dig out the earwax with your fingers or other tools, as this may easily cause damage to the ear canal and eardrum. The correct approach is to ask medical personnel to perform a proper cleaning with professional instruments.
