Recently, there have been many people experiencing headaches, dizziness, irritability, poor sleep, or chest tightness and palpitations due to unknown causes. Experts remind us that it is important to measure blood pressure in a timely manner. However, since hypertension does not have particularly distinct symptoms, middle-aged and elderly individuals should regularly check their blood pressure to be vigilant against and prevent the occurrence of hypertension. If there is any sign of a tendency towards high blood pressure, one should go to the hospital for further examination as soon as possible to confirm the diagnosis and receive early treatment.

Even if your parents have never experienced a single symptom of high blood pressure, it doesn't mean they won't develop hypertension. For middle-aged and elderly individuals, even if their blood pressure is normal, they should get it checked every six months. If symptoms appear, blood pressure should be measured promptly. In particular, adults over 35 years old, those with a family history of hypertension, obese individuals, or those with hyperlipidemia or diabetes, should frequently monitor changes in their blood pressure and keep records.

In general, if blood pressure falls within the range of normal high values (120-139/80-89 mmHg), lifestyle improvements should be made (please refer to the hypertension diet) to prevent the onset of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. The blood pressure of ordinary hypertensive patients should be reduced to below 140/90 mmHg, and the systolic blood pressure of elderly individuals should be lowered to below 150 mmHg. Hypertensive patients with diabetes or kidney disease should aim to reduce their blood pressure to below 130/80 mmHg.
