Today, I will talk to everyone about how to save yourself in case of a sudden hypertensive emergency. Since hypertension is like a time bomb, a sudden spike in blood pressure can lead to various cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In the event of an emergency, family members and patients can make a preliminary judgment based on symptoms and take appropriate emergency measures.
A sudden spike in blood pressure may trigger severe conditions such as stroke or myocardial infarction. This situation is referred to as a hypertensive emergency. Improper daily care, fatigue, irregular eating habits, and lack of a regular lifestyle could all be potential triggers for a sudden hypertensive crisis.
Condition 1: Hypertensive encephalopathy
Symptoms: Headache, dizziness, irritability, nausea, vomiting accompanied by a sudden rise in blood pressure.
Emergency Measures: Immediate bed rest and timely intake of antihypertensive medication. If there's no improvement after taking medicine and resting, notify the emergency center to seek hospital emergency care.
Condition 2: Acute cerebrovascular disease
Symptoms: Headache, vomiting, along with numbness, paralysis, and impaired consciousness in limbs.
Emergency Measures: Immediately contact the emergency center. Meanwhile, lie down flat and turn the head to one side to prevent aspiration of vomit into the airway, which could cause choking or aspiration pneumonia.
Condition 3: Acute left heart failure
Symptoms: Palpitations, shortness of breath, cyanosis of the lips, difficulty breathing with coughing up pink frothy sputum.
Emergency Measures: Do not lie flat; quickly position the patient in a sitting posture with both legs hanging down. If an oxygen bag is available at home, let the patient inhale oxygen immediately and notify the emergency center right away.
Condition 4: Acute angina pectoris or myocardial infarction
Symptoms: After physical exertion or emotional stress, sudden chest pain, chest tightness, radiating to the left shoulder or left arm, pale face, cold sweats...
Emergency Measures: Let the patient rest quietly, place a nitroglycerin tablet under the tongue, and inhale oxygen. Call the emergency center immediately.
