Hainan News Online, July 4 - An academic seminar on the topic of "Is there a new variant of HIV?" was held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, on July 3. Most scientists and medical professionals present expressed that the new strain of HIV currently appearing in Thailand is more contagious, and vigilance should be raised.
The World Daily of Thailand reported on July 4 that Thailand had recently discovered a hybrid variant virus between Type X and Type Y HIV, which has drawn attention from the medical community.
Thai medical experts pointed out that the variant virus is more infectious than other types of HIV and is resistant to drugs. It could replace the current Type X and Type Y HIV prevalent in Thailand within a few years.
Dr. Loppon of Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok said that currently, most vaccines developed in Thailand are targeted at Type X and Type Y HIV. Therefore, if the variant virus becomes widespread, it will have an adverse impact on Thailand's efforts to prevent and control AIDS.
