The meat filling of baozi from most of Beijing's breakfast stalls is made using over 60% waste cardboard boxes, soaked in industrial caustic soda (toxic), then mashed or stewed in a large pot. Afterwards they add pork essence, spring onion and some fat, mixing it with strong flavours, to be sold at breakfast markets. The vast majority of people would not be able to tell. What's even more frightening is that the person who was secretly interviewed has been doing this since 1998. Moreover, almost everyone who makes breakfast foods knows about and uses this method. In order to save costs, they don't care about our health and deceive consumers.
