A hernia occurs when a part of the body's tissue or organ moves away from its original position, passing through a gap, defect or weak area in the body into another area. Commonly known as "intestinal gas", there are different types such as umbilical hernia, direct inguinal hernia, indirect inguinal hernia, incisional hernia, recurrent surgical hernia, linea alba hernia, and femoral hernia. Hernias are often caused by factors such as coughing, sneezing, excessive strain, obesity of the abdomen, straining during bowel movements, pregnancy in women, excessive crying in children, and age-related weakening of the abdominal wall in elderly individuals.
