The research was conducted by Dr. Morten Grundt of Lillehammer, Norway, and some of his colleagues. They investigated the records of 1784 first-time heart disease patients in a local hospital and found that the average age for non-smoking men to initially contract heart disease was 72 years old, whereas for smoking men, this age was 64. As for women, these ages were 81 and 66 respectively.
