The first case of suspected H1N1 influenza in mainland China appeared in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

On the afternoon of May 10, the National Health Ministry received a report from the Sichuan Provincial Health Department that a fever case was discovered at the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital. Based on clinical manifestations and laboratory test results, it was preliminarily diagnosed as a suspected case of H1N1 influenza.
Patient Bao Moumou, male, 30 years old, currently studying at a university in the United States. The patient departed from St. Louis, USA on May 7 via Sao Paulo to Tokyo, Japan, and arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport at 1:30 AM on May 9 on flight NW029 from Tokyo. He then took flight U8882 from Beijing at 10:50 AM on the same day, arriving in Chengdu at 1:17 PM. On May 9, during the flight from Beijing to Chengdu, the patient felt feverish and experienced symptoms such as sore throat, cough, nasal congestion, and minimal runny nose. After disembarking in Chengdu, he felt unwell and went directly to the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital.
