What is secondary amenorrhea?

Common causes include endometrial injury or adhesion (commonly seen in multiple curettages and excessive curettage that damages the endometrium, causing intrauterine adhesion), tuberculous endometritis, premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovary, ovarian functional tumors, environmental changes, psychological trauma, malnutrition and other external factors, injection of long-acting contraceptive needles or oral contraceptives, amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome, Sheehan's syndrome (caused by postpartum hemorrhage and shock leading to ischemia, necrosis of the anterior pituitary tissue, and hypofunction of the pituitary gland resulting in amenorrhea).

After the occurrence of secondary amenorrhea, one should promptly go to the hospital for examination. Based on medical history, physical examination, relevant auxiliary examinations, and hormone tests, the cause of amenorrhea should be identified. Treatment should be given according to different causes.
