Advanced gastric cancer is often associated with widespread metastasis, and frequently complicated by pyloric obstruction, cancerous perforation, bleeding, ascites, etc., thus losing the chance of surgical cure. These patients account for about 10% to 15% of the total number of gastric cancer cases. With the improvement in modern diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, it has been gradually recognized that treatment of advanced gastric cancer should adopt a new concept of active treatment instead of the old consciousness of passive waiting.
