Book collecting website (http://www.tushuxinxi.com/) received a tip-off, and the reporter saw outside Wuhan Library that quite a lot of readers wearing slippers were turned away.

According to the security guard at the entrance, nearly 100 readers who were untidy in appearance were refused entry yesterday morning.

The reporter saw outside the library a notice which read: "In order to maintain a civilized and comfortable public environment within the library premises, please pay attention to your personal grooming. Please do not enter the premises wearing tank tops, shorts, slippers (including flip-flops) etc."

Miss Wang, who was stopped at the entrance, expressed some confusion about this. She said that she could understand the library's requirement for neat appearance, but many popular styles of women's sandals nowadays do not have back straps, "this regulation is outmoded."

The reporter then contacted the staff of Wuhan Library Office. According to the introduction, as there are often readers walking indoors wearing slippers, high heels etc., making a lot of noise, the notice was posted on July 23rd to inform the readers in advance, and it was officially implemented on July 27th.
