In Korea, there are three specifications for the funeral of the highest national leader, namely the president: first is "state funeral", second is "national funeral", and third is "family funeral". The duration of a "state funeral" is nine days, with all expenses borne by the state, and on the day of the funeral, national public agencies get a day off. The duration of a "national funeral" is seven days, with part of the expenses covered by the state, and national public agencies do not take a day off. If a "family funeral" specification is used, all forms and procedures of the funeral are decided by the family. Among the former presidents of Korea, only one president, Park Chung-hee, has had a funeral held at the "state funeral" level.
