The boy was a sailor, and his dream lay within the vast seas. The girl had once experienced a shipwreck, which left her with aquaphobia; she dared not even look at water. Later, they got married. When they exchanged rings, the girl built a line in the sand at a place closest to the sea but just out of sight of it, and said: "This is called the lifeline, and I will never cross it."
The boy's life was in the sea, and he would always set sail, time and again, enduring the洗礼of storms. Every time, the girl would wait for him at the lifeline, day after day without fail. The boy loved the sea dearly, yet in front of the girl, he never mentioned even half a word about "the sea." The girl was afraid of the sea, but she never stopped the boy from going to sea because it was his dream.
That day, the boy's fleet encountered a storm. When they were rescued, only a few people returned, including the boy. He fell into a coma in the hospital for seven days and seven nights, during which the girl stayed by his side without blinking an eye. Finally, the boy woke up, and the girl simply said: "Welcome back," before collapsing into sleep.
When the girl woke up, the boy had already set sail again, leaving behind a note that read: "For you, I won't die." The girl smiled and went to the lifeline to continue waiting for him.
Afterward, the boy faced many big storms. Once, the entire ship sank, and everyone on board perished except for the boy who managed to swim back. He remained conscious until he saw the girl at the lifeline, where he laughed and said: "I'm back, didn't I tell you?" before fainting. The girl laughed through her tears as she rushed the boy to the hospital. The boy never forgot his promise to the girl because every time, no matter what happened, he would return to the lifeline and say to the girl: "I'm back, didn't I tell you?" And every time, the girl would wait at the lifeline until she could say to the boy: "Welcome back."
Finally, on the last occasion, the boy drifted in the sea for over ten days and nights without food or fresh water. Another storm hit, but he held on. In the moment he saw the girl, he softly said: "I'm back, didn't I tell you?" before taking his last breath. The girl cried, hugging his body, and gently said: "Welcome back."
That day, many people came to bid farewell to the boy. Everyone spoke many words, but the girl heard none of them. As the funeral ended, the girl suddenly ran off, snatching the boy's urn. People chased her, chasing her all the way past the lifeline, whereupon the girl abruptly jumped into the deep sea...
Suddenly, she realized that the sea wasn't scary. The blue sea was so beautiful, so beautiful, just because it carried his scent...
