The handkerchiefs, folded squarely and neatly, used to be an essential item for people of all ages in that era. Most of the handkerchiefs were made of pure cotton, printed with various patterns of flowers, birds, fish, insects, or figures and animals. They came in a variety of colors such as red, pink, yellow, sky blue, and there were also plain ones without patterns; some had straight edges while others had wavy edges; there were even more sophisticated ones made of silk with embroidered flowers.
