If the first round of the presidential election were to take place this Sunday, 26% of French people would vote for Nicolas Sarkozy. This is an increase of 0.5 points compared to our last survey conducted on February 3rd and 4th. This very limited progress does not yet allow us to affirm that Nicolas Sarkozy's official launch into the campaign has given new momentum to his candidacy. He also hasn't benefited from the recent withdrawals.
As for François Hollande, he would still lead in the first round with 32% of the votes, which is 2 points less than in our previous survey two weeks ago. This slight erosion in voting intentions for the Socialist candidate is not particularly surprising. The previous measurement had indeed been taken after a particularly dense political and media period for the PS candidate.
The gap narrows in the second round, although it remains significant.
