Vichy Research has found that the peak time for sebum secretion by the sebaceous glands is at night, while the peak of oily skin surface occurs at noon. In the few hours after falling asleep at night, the hair follicle-sebaceous gland ducts are relatively unobstructed. The sebaceous glands receive a special biological signal, which causes them to become abnormally active and secrete large amounts of oil, reaching the peak of oil secretion at midnight. At the same time, on the skin surface, when the oil encounters dead skin cells, it forms a plug covering the outermost part of the pores, causing pore blockage and rapidly expanding, leading to pore dilation and deformation, making the pores become increasingly noticeable. This ultimately leads to a sharp increase in bacteria, inflammation, and the generation of six major skin problems. Therefore, nighttime is precisely the critical moment when skin imperfections occur. Hence, it's essential to have a day-and-night relay approach to suppress the dual peaks of oil secretion in order to resolve oily/combination skin issues.
