Chicken wing wood, also known as "Xichi wood," and sometimes written as "Qi Zhi wood," is a type of rosewood where the heartwood's radial cross-section displays chicken wing ("V"-shaped) patterns. Chicken wing wood is renowned for its distinctive and unique grain, and has always been highly favored by literati, refined individuals, and a wide range of consumers alike. Chicken wing wood is relatively easy to distinguish from other types of rosewood, but in actual market conditions, it often comes with mixed quality and authenticity that is hard to discern. Antique furniture refers to old chicken wing wood, new chicken wing wood, and rain tree wood, while rosewood furniture is further divided into Myanmar chicken wing wood and African chicken wing wood. How do we differentiate between them?
