Observation 4: Assessing Teaching Effectiveness Through the Child's Changes

After working with the tutor for some time, you should observe changes in your child’s learning, speech, lifestyle, and social behavior.

A student who performs poorly academically may not necessarily become a burden to society, but if there are issues with their character and conduct, society could end up paying an enormous social cost.

It is good when students and teachers get along well, but students might develop admiration or emulation towards their teacher. Therefore, if the teacher has poor character, regardless of how skilled they are at teaching, would you want your child to become someone who excels academically but lacks integrity?

I once took on a tutoring job where within less than a month, the parent told me, “You’re really amazing! Regardless of whether there’s improvement in grades, I’ve noticed that our Mingming has become more mature recently and speaks more politely! You’re truly an excellent teacher!” Being praised like this made me feel a bit embarrassed, and I thought to myself, “This is just what I’m supposed to do, it’s nothing special!”

I have always regarded nurturing the student's "heart" as the highest principle in teaching. Only through an upright and positive mindset can we cultivate future talents.

Nowadays, there are many "highly educated" degenerates in society. Despite having high academic qualifications and strong professional skills, they don't work diligently and resort to improper means to gain wealth. If your child becomes one of those people, I truly wonder if you would still proudly tell your friends, “My son makes a lot of money!”

Even if the child’s moral integrity doesn’t show obvious improvement, at least under the guidance of the teacher, their personality and speech shouldn't deteriorate compared to before. Moreover, if the teacher can nurture the student's "heart," not only will the current grades improve, but it will also greatly benefit their future life!

If the teacher can bring about some changes in the student's daily life, such as making them more willing to participate in household chores or showing creativity in small ways, it undoubtedly adds higher value. Because good teaching can broaden a student's horizons, enhance their imagination and creativity, allowing them to be more flexible in other aspects beyond just academics. At least in terms of training in mathematics and sciences, it is achievable!
