A good article, like an excellent piece of music, should have rises and falls, a pleasing sense of rhythm. More importantly, it should clearly and accurately express the author's thoughts. Therefore, when we work on the TOEFL essay section, excessively pursuing sentence length can sometimes sacrifice the "readability" of the sentences, especially for students with average foundations. In such cases, artificially striving for longer sentences may actually undermine syntactic accuracy. Below, we provide examples of some less successful long sentences and offer suggestions on how to improve them.
