With the wide application of pulse air pressure spray water guns in forest fire prevention, the pulse air pressure spray water gun (hereinafter referred to as the pulse gun) has gradually been recognized and loved by people. However, there are various opinions on how to better use the pulse gun and give full play to its advantages in extinguishing forest fires. Here, I would like to share some preliminary views on the tactical combination of pulse guns in extinguishing forest fires.
1. Break down the whole into parts and reduce the burden
In actual operation of the pulse gun, many people are troubled by its weight. They think: the pulse gun is good, but it's a bit heavy. Carrying nearly 30 kilograms of equipment and climbing over mountains and rivers can be exhausting.
Suggestion: Divide the entire set of equipment into two parts, each carried by two soldiers. Each person carries only more than ten kilograms. This way, not only can the weight be reduced, but also two spare gas bottles can be carried.
Specifically, it is as follows: The first part consists of only one bucket filled with 12 liters of water, carried by one soldier. The second part consists of the nozzle, regulator, and three gas bottles, carried by another soldier. Each soldier carries about more than ten kilograms of equipment, which should not be too heavy. If the water in the bucket is injected at the scene, the weight will be reduced by another 12 kilograms.
After the two soldiers reach the fire site, they can assemble within 30 seconds before the commander gives the order to extinguish the fire and start fighting. The two soldiers can take turns operating the pulse gun during the firefighting process to reduce labor intensity. The time for replacing the gas bottle and refilling the water bucket does not exceed 90 seconds. If practiced regularly, the time can be even shorter.
2. Reasonable allocation, coordinated combat
The price of the pulse gun is higher compared to general firefighting tools. Therefore, it is impossible to equip each person with one.
Suggestion: A professional firefighting team can be equipped with three to five sets of pulse guns for coordinated combat with existing firefighting equipment.
The pulse gun is powerful, with the farthest range reaching up to 32 meters (effective range also 17 meters), and the exit speed can reach 120 meters/second. The sprayed water mist greatly increases the heat absorption area. Its principle is to instantly complete the processes of atomization heat absorption, oxygen isolation, and pulse impact, achieving high firefighting efficiency.
Maximum diameter 5 meters
The pulse gun is extremely water-saving, with water utilization rate reaching over 90%, while traditional direct water firefighting has an effective water utilization rate of only around 10%. Therefore, when extinguishing forest fires, we can use limited water resources efficiently with high-performance pulse gun firefighting equipment.
During the firefighting process, the pulse gun leads the charge, with other existing firefighting equipment coordinating with the pulse gun.
3. Concentrate firepower, eliminate the fire head
First, concentrate three to five sets of pulse guns in a straight line, simultaneously firing the first shot (strictly prohibited from front-to-back alignment, strictly prohibited from aiming at people), forming a water mist wall to suppress the flames. Using the principle of atomization heat absorption of the pulse gun, the temperature of the fire scene can be rapidly reduced. At this point, personnel can advance forward, then simultaneously fire the second and third shots. Depending on the fire scene situation, divide into two groups and alternate firing towards the hottest areas (i.e., the brightest areas of the fire scene) until the fire head is eliminated. At this time, other firefighting equipment, such as wind-powered firefighting machines and tool No. 2, follow up to implement firefighting. At this point, the role of the pulse gun is to cover these firefighting tools, promptly extinguishing any rekindled fire heads.
Four pulse guns firing simultaneously
After extinguishing the fire head, at least one set of pulse guns should be retained to cover other teammates while they refill water and replace gas, while also monitoring wind direction and fire conditions.
When other team members' combat ability is restored, this set of pulse guns can be re-deployed, with another set of pulse guns providing cover.
4. Focus on breakthroughs, cut off the fire line
Choose relatively weak points on the fire line, concentrate firepower for intense shooting, and focus on breaking through. Strive to create a breakthrough in the shortest possible time. Then, use three to five sets of pulse guns in a triangular formation to advance forward, left, and right simultaneously, expanding the results and cutting off the fire line. If the fire is very large, additional groups can be dispatched to implement according to the aforementioned method.
5. Extinguish crown fires, fight surface fires
The spray distance of the pulse gun exceeds 30 meters, with an effective spray distance exceeding 17 meters, forming a misty state with a certain amount of impact kinetic energy. Even when the wind reaches level 5-6, it can still ensure that the height of the water mist reaches more than 10 meters. Therefore, it has special advantages for crown fires, especially for shrubs distributed on steep cliffs in southern China, with excellent firefighting effects. Because the pulse gun uses pulse-style firing, it has strong impact force during spraying. This impact force combined with water mist acts simultaneously on surface fires, enabling rapid and efficient extinguishment of surface fires.
6. Overcome obstacles, implement firefighting
The water mist sprayed by the pulse gun forms a jujube-shaped water mist cluster, with a maximum diameter of up to 5 meters when viewed from the front. Therefore, in situations where there are bushes or gullies blocking the way, avoid thick tree trunks and shoot towards the center of the fire source in relatively sparse areas. This can quickly and effectively allow the water mist to penetrate obstacles and implement firefighting.
7. Set barriers, emergency avoidance
During the process of extinguishing forest fires, it is common to encounter situations where the fire line suddenly changes direction, directly threatening the personal safety of firefighters. At this point, the pulse gun can be used to shoot above the personnel, in the direction of the fire, or in the direction of evacuation, setting up a water mist barrier above the bodies of the firefighters. Using the principle of atomization heat absorption of the pulse gun, lower the temperature of the fire scene until the personnel can safely evacuate.
8. Emergency support, quick and timely
Organizing a forest firefighting assault team, logistics support is extremely important. Track-type forest fire trucks, troop carriers, etc., can be configured. Near roads, vehicles can provide water and gas sources. If the fire scene is far from the road and there are no roads, relay supply, segmented transportation, manual carrying, etc., can be used to ensure the urgent needs of frontline firefighting materials.
For example, if the road is 30 kilometers away from the fire scene, transfer stations can be set up at 15 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers respectively. Water sources can be collected locally, and gas sources can be delivered by gas supply vehicles with air pumps and gas bottles to each transfer station at the front line. The number of gas bottles is ten times the number of pulse guns. Mobile air filling pumps can also be equipped, powered by gasoline engines, small in size and light in weight, and can be carried up the mountain by two people. It takes only 8 minutes to fill a bottle of gas. This ensures the continuous supply of gas and water for the pulse gun, ensuring the persistence of combat capability.
It is suggested to combine the already issued fire pumps and pulse air pressure spray firefighting equipment in the forest area for use. This solves the problem of water replenishment for firefighting and greatly improves water utilization. Additionally, gas charging vehicles can be selected for power source replenishment, allowing the pulse air pressure spray firefighting equipment to fully demonstrate its safe, efficient, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly role in extinguishing forest fires.
