"Long nose" almost a standard configuration
Most of the school buses exhibited at this exhibition adopted the long-nose design. As a representative of American classic school buses, Blue Bird brought a long-nosed school bus. The front of this school bus extended about 1 meter beyond the body, truly deserving its name as a "long nose". More than half of the engine is located in front of the windshield, which can buffer the collision force when a frontal collision occurs. On the "long nose", there are two surrounding mirrors like bull nose rings, called front supplementary blind spot mirrors. Together with the rearview mirror and reversing monitor, they can truly achieve 360-degree no blind spots, thereby improving the vehicle's safety performance.
Yutong, the first domestic company to launch a long-nosed school bus, brought three school buses, all of which were "long noses". The "long nose" shape at the front is due to the use of a front-mounted engine, which has no effect on the inside of the vehicle when it is turned off. The interior is fully enclosed steel, so in the event of an accident and rollover, the interior does not deform, thus leaving ample escape space. Staff from participating companies told reporters that the "long nose" is safer, "It has become a standard configuration for school buses now."
Active and passive safety technologies come together
Statistics from most traffic accidents today indicate that new safety strategies must be adopted to reduce the number of traffic accidents and casualties. Relevant studies point out that the integration of active safety systems and passive safety systems provides the possibility of highly improved performance. Taking Zhongtong school buses as an example, each product has a solid steel frame. Intelligent technology makes driving safer, equipped with a whole vehicle anti-collision system, steering control system, driver fatigue driving, tire pressure early warning alarm system to ensure driving safety. Comprehensive prevention, more reliable passive safety: nine designs to eliminate fire hazards, four measures to delay combustion, and six safe escape routes constitute a complete system to prevent fires.
Jinlong school bus products are equipped with a series of independently developed active and passive safety technologies, including high-strength body frames, front and rear anti-collision beams, 360 panoramic views, lane departure alarms, forward anti-collision alarms, automatic collision side-flip alarms, full-vehicle automatic window breakers, explosion-proof fuel tanks, automatic fire extinguishing devices and other safety equipment, making the overall safety performance of the vehicle reach luxury passenger car standards. Taking the lane departure alarm system as an example, we can see Jinlong's emphasis on and innovation in safety technology. Fatigue driving and distraction are one of the main causes of vehicle accidents. To eliminate this cause, engineers from Jinlong's postdoctoral workstation integrated advanced technologies such as image perception and hazard estimation, independently developing the lane departure alarm system. This system is integrated into the onboard computer, which can monitor the steering status of the vehicle in real time. When the vehicle suddenly turns and deviates from the lane, the system can automatically issue a deviation warning until the driver corrects the driving direction, reducing the probability of accidents and helping drivers develop safe driving habits.
High-standard chassis
On December 27, 2011, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publicly solicited opinions on the "School Bus Safety Technical Conditions", "School Bus Seat System and Its Vehicle Fixtures Strength", "Kindergarten School Bus Safety Technical Conditions", and "Kindergarten School Bus Seat System and Its Vehicle Fixtures Strength" four mandatory national standards (hereinafter collectively referred to as the "new school bus standards"). It stipulates that the height of the school bus chassis above the ground should be no less than 700mm.
At this exhibition, the chassis of the American Blue Bird school bus uses high-strength steel plates, high off the ground, effectively reducing road obstacles' scraping. Using the longitudinal beam technology of the chassis reduces the harm caused by vehicle rollovers. In response to the operating environment of school buses, Yangzhou Yaxing developed a special school bus chassis. The body and chassis load-bearing elements adopt a closed-loop structure, increasing the connection stiffness of the side frame to minimize the squeezing deformation of the body caused by side impacts or rollovers, protecting the space for passengers inside. In addition, Shaanxi Automobile Oshu Special Vehicle, as the largest bus manufacturer in the northwest region, participated in this exhibition with the SX6720XDF type dedicated school bus. Relying on its strong military off-road bus chassis R&D advantages, Oshu designed, produced, and launched the market. It mainly adopts a two-box body, with the engine in front, which can effectively cushion during collisions, maximizing the absorption of collision energy, providing security assurance for the students inside; the body frame adopts a rectangular steel closed-loop design, enhancing the strength of the body frame, ensuring the safety of the students inside.
The safety monitoring system shows great prowess
GOS made Haige shine brightly in past bus operations, and now Haige intelligent safety school buses also adopt the G-BOS smart operation system innovatively developed by Haige. It has practical functions such as safe driving management, GPS positioning management, and 3G video surveillance management. Not only does it completely inherit the seven basic functions of Haige G-BOS, but it also improves according to the characteristics of school bus operations, making it more suitable for the safe operation management of school buses. Haige can assist in building a school bus safety monitoring management center. Through this management center, the operation status, location status, driver driving behavior, and analysis of all school buses connected to the system can be viewed, helping the units managing the school buses effectively manage them; through cameras installed in different positions, drivers can observe the internal and external conditions of the vehicle comprehensively through the G-BOS terminal screen, helping protect student safety. For example, when students swipe their cards getting on and off the bus, the boarding and alighting card-swiping system will automatically send the card-swiping information via SMS to the pre-set mobile phones, allowing parents and teachers to always keep track of the students' dynamics; the one-touch emergency call (SOS) system, when an emergency situation occurs in the vehicle, the driver presses the emergency call switch, sending a distress signal to the school bus monitoring center.
Yutong's Anxin school bus intelligent management system is even more capable with sixteen functions. At its core is the GPS satellite positioning device with driving record function, as specified in the "Road Traffic Twelfth Five-Year Plan" issued by the State Council Safety Committee Office. It integrates the vehicle CAN bus, 3G video, passenger flow detection, RF card reader, touch display screen, and other equipment's Internet of Vehicles terminal system. Real-time monitoring, student abnormal riding alerts, comprehensive statistics of school bus operation data, and other 16 functions allow the management department, student parents, and school bus operation companies to have peace of mind.
