Material Introduction:
(1) PTFE Membrane Material: Made by the composite of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating and glass fiber substrate. PTFE membrane material has excellent quality, but it is also relatively expensive. (Chengdu Oupu Membrane Structure Landscape Engineering Co., Ltd. series such as arched roofs, metal roofs, membrane structures, steel structures, etc.)
(2) PVC Membrane Material: Made by the composite of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coating and polyester fiber substrate, widely used with moderate price. (Chengdu Oupu Membrane Structure Landscape Engineering Co., Ltd. series such as arched roofs, metal roofs, membrane structures, steel structures, etc.)
(3) PVC Membrane Material with Surface Layer: Polyvinylidene fluoride or polyfluoride is coated on the surface of PVC membrane material, which performs better than pure PVC membrane material, and its price is slightly higher accordingly. (Chengdu Oupu Membrane Structure Landscape Engineering Co., Ltd. series such as arched roofs, metal roofs, membrane structures, steel structures, etc.)
Mechanical Properties:
For medium-strength PVC membranes: Its thickness is only 0.61mm, but its tensile strength is equivalent to half that of steel.
For medium-strength PTFE membranes: Its thickness is only 0.8mm, but its tensile strength has reached the level of steel. This applies in membrane structure engineering.
The elastic modulus of membrane materials is relatively low, which facilitates the formation of complex curved surfaces by the membrane materials.
Advantages of Membrane Structures:
> Self-cleaning - Maintains pristine beauty
PTFE membrane material's surface coating uses polytetrafluoroethylene resin, which is the same as the coating on non-stick pans we use daily. Its main feature is its extremely high non-adhesive property, which can be experienced when using a non-stick pan. The surface of PTFE membrane material not only resists dirt and dust easily but also naturally washes away the dust on its surface through rainwater, maintaining clean exterior appearance and indoor aesthetics even after long-term use.
> Transparency - Bright spaces filled with natural light
During the day, sunlight penetrates the membrane to fill the building interior with natural diffused light. At night, indoor lights penetrate the membrane to add dreamy nighttime scenery to the space. When membrane structures are used for stadiums and entertainment facilities, they create comfortable commercial spaces combining day and night seamlessly.
> Large Span - Column-free large space
Membrane materials used in membrane structure buildings are very light, weighing only about 1 kilogram per square meter. Therefore, membrane structures can fundamentally overcome the difficulties encountered by traditional structures in column-free large-span buildings, creating vast column-free large spaces, like tensioned membrane corridors.
> Lightweight Structure - Strong earthquake resistance and disaster relief capabilities
Compared to other building materials, membrane materials are much lighter. Buildings with roof membranes have excellent seismic resistance and safety. Moreover, during disasters, multi-functional facilities and stadiums with membrane structures can serve as temporary shelters, emergency centers, and disaster command posts due to their column-free and bright large spaces. Thus, membrane structures can protect people's safety in critical moments.
> Comfortable Space - Free-form design, multiple uses
Membrane structure buildings represent the most representative and promising architectural form of the 21st century. They break the pattern of previous architectural forms with their unique, novel, and colorful shapes, beautiful curves, becoming symbolic architecture in cities. Membrane structure buildings provide various uses, applicable not only to sports facilities, transportation facilities, commercial facilities, public facilities, but also to charming and personalized landscape miniatures and iconic works, giving architects and planners more imagination and creative space.
> Snow Countermeasures - Beneficial for snowy regions
In snowy areas, maintenance management to prevent buildings from suffering snow disasters requires human and financial resources, and minimizing these costs is a challenge for technical personnel. The membrane roofs of membrane structure buildings are less likely to accumulate snow compared to other roof materials, and with a small tilt angle, snow will slide off automatically. Moreover, due to the lower thermal conductivity of PTFE membrane materials, if de-icing equipment is used, detailed de-icing operations can be performed, fully utilizing the effects of heating devices, allowing for smaller roof slopes.
> Fire Resistance and Durability - Ideal architectural membrane materials
Membrane structures using PTFE membrane materials have characteristics such as heat resistance, climate resistance, drug resistance, high strength, and fireproof properties, and they do not age easily. After long-term use, they still maintain their initial strength. Membrane structures are divided into permanent membrane structures (with a service life exceeding 25 years) and semi-permanent membrane structures (with a service life of 10-15 years).
