ECNS, January 20 -- According to the U.S.-based World Journal, a 26-year-old Chinese international student surnamed Yang who was studying for an MBA in the first year at Emporia State University in the state of Kansas, recently committed suicide, reportedly due to excessive living and psychological pressures. He first shot himself and then crashed his car to death.
Kansas police said that according to investigations, it was found that the international student surnamed Yang rented the vehicle involved on the day of the incident and drove it, crashing on Interstate 35 highway. Before the crash, he had already shot himself and before committing suicide, he made a call to report the case to the police by himself.
Michael Shonrock, President of Emporia State University, expressed sorrow over Yang's death after the tragedy occurred.
According to police records, Yang came to study at Emporia State University in 2010. Yang's classmates and friends were all shocked after his death. A classmate said that Yang was helpful and did not show any abnormality. Some classmates speculated that Yang might have given too much pressure to himself and could not find appropriate ways to express it, leading to this tragedy.
The Chinese Students Association of Emporia has planned to privately hold a memorial service for Yang. It is understood that there are about more than 200 Chinese international students at Emporia State University.
Zhouziyi, the consul responsible for consular protection business at the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, just returned to Chicago from Emporia State University after understanding this accident. The consulate has assisted Yang's family in coming to the United States to handle the aftermath. (By Huang Huiling)
