Many friends may have such concerns: tattoos that were once considered beautiful and individualistic now need to be removed due to work or love-related reasons. So, what methods can be used to remove these tattoos? For this, we consulted with experts from Han's Plastic Surgery in Jinan. Let's take a look at the relevant introduction provided by the experts.
To remove a tattoo, you can first choose laser treatment based on the tattoo color. If it's ineffective, then consider surgery. Generally speaking, if laser treatment shows no effect after four to five sessions, it should not be continued. Studies have shown that after five sessions, there is almost no effect, and surgery is required afterward. The downside of surgery is that it may leave scars.
If you choose surgical treatment, it depends on the size, range, and shape of your tattoo. If it's linear or relatively small, it can be directly excised and sutured. After the sutures are removed, external use of Contractubex can prevent scarring. Three months to half a year later, dermabrasion can be performed on the incision scar. Dermabrasion can be done every three months, two to four times, and the scar will become less noticeable.
If the range is large, skin grafting after excision or staged excision can be performed, or a skin expander can be used. Of course, this method leaves more obvious scars. Therefore, it's best to try laser treatment first, and surgery should be the last choice. If the tattoo is shallow, dermabrasion can also be tried.
Common methods of laser tattoo removal:
(1) For those who need to remove tattoos for cosmetic reasons, a dermatome can be used to surgically excise the tattoo. If the area is large, a skin graft and reconstructive surgery can be performed.
(2) For those who need to remove tattoos for non-cosmetic reasons, electrolysis or chemical corrosion methods can be used for smaller areas.
(3) Currently, skin friction or its improved methods are also widely used, using salt as the abrasive agent. The disadvantage is that it generally cannot remove all pigments and may leave disfiguring scars and/or pigment deposition. However, within a period after the surgery, the pigments may fade spontaneously.
(4) Laser treatment also has good results. Laser treatment for pigmentation, tattoos, and eyebrow tattoos is highly effective, has minimal side effects, short treatment time, and simple postoperative care for the affected area.
