The shocking image of people having to descend hundred-meter deep wells to fetch water has captured the hearts of many readers. This is a microcosm of Yunnan's once-in-a-century drought that has persisted for three years, and also reflects the lives of many simple farmers who rely on the weather for their livelihoods. Following this report, the headquarters of Lotus Cars in Hangzhou immediately responded. After collaborating with the Yunnan Provincial Youth Development Foundation (referred to as the Youth Foundation) to aid Qinghai Lake in Xiangyun County, they took action again to contribute their share as a socially responsible enterprise to Yunnan's drought relief efforts.
Lotus Cars promptly dispatched its local Yunnan dealer, Yunnan Bi Hai Yuan Company, for an on-site investigation and requested a feasible assistance plan. Two colleagues from Yunnan Bi Hai Yuan descended alongside villagers through a mountain cave with a slope exceeding 70 degrees, accommodating only one person at a time, to reach the underground river. After a simple measurement, it was found to be dozens of meters deep, and the underground river could continuously provide water resources, meeting the requirements for corresponding water extraction and drinking water projects.
Donation of a Lotus Sedan to Resolve Water Extraction Difficulties
With the collaboration of our newspaper, after detailed discussions with the local villagers and budgeting for the feasibility and cost of water extraction, it was determined that the initial phase of the project to bring water to the surface would require an 11.5-kilowatt pump, a generator of over 22 kilowatts, high-strength water tanks and pipes to prevent bursting, along with fuel, with a budget of approximately 100,000 yuan. Upon receiving the message back at the Lotus headquarters, the company decided to donate a Lotus L3 coupe as the first installment for water extraction and drought resistance. The reserve price was set at 50,000 yuan, and by 15:30, the highest bidder would acquire the vehicle. All proceeds would be handed over to the Youth Foundation specifically for the village's drought-resistant drinking water project, with the Youth Foundation issuing tax-free donation invoices. Any surplus would also be used for drought relief in other parts of Qujing. Local Dealer Yunnan Bi Hai Yuan Rekindles Efforts
As a local Lotus car dealer, Yunnan Bi Hai Yuan is also a public-spirited enterprise. It has previously organized car club activities to collaborate with the Youth Foundation, donating 110,000 yuan to Baiyan Village in Dali and nearly 100,000 yuan for water delivery and donations in Bailu Township. With strong support from the manufacturer, they have decided to further their efforts for drought relief.
