According to the news (reported by Han Dapeng and intern reporter Chen He), on the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, water leaked from a house on the fifth floor of Building 10 in the Jing Tong Yuan residential area in Guanzhuang, Chaoyang District. Due to no one being at home, the repair personnel were unable to enter the house for repairs, resulting in more than a hundred households in the entire building losing heating, and the building's elevator also stopping operation (as previously reported by our newspaper). Yesterday morning, the storage room on the first floor of the building leaked water again. The water flow flooded the lobby of the first floor, and the high-rise elevators continued to be "paralyzed".
According to Mr. Wang, a resident of the building, on the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, water leaked from a house on the fifth floor. To prevent the water flow from damaging the elevator lines, the property management turned off the elevator. After the repairs were completed, the elevator could not be used for a long time. It was found that if the elevator was activated, it might cause a short circuit, and operations could only be restored after the icicles naturally melted.
"Three days have passed, the ice should have melted, but unexpectedly, there was another water leak," said Mr. Wang. At 10 o'clock yesterday morning, water leaked from the storage room next to the elevator on the first floor, flooding the lobby of the first floor. "The water level was initially about two or three centimeters high." After the incident, residents promptly swept up the water to prevent it from spreading. By noon yesterday, after inspection by the repair personnel, the cause was determined to be blockage of the underground pipes in the storage room, and currently, there is no more overflow.
Last night, the reporter visited the residential area again. Residents unanimously expressed that the pipe overflow indicates partial blockage, but as of 6 p.m., the pipe cleaning work had not yet begun. In the past three days, the property management did not take any measures such as artificial drainage or defrosting. "They just waited for the elevator to dry naturally, and now this has happened again. How much longer do we have to wait to use the elevator?" The residents said that the building has 21 floors with over 160 households, and the non-functioning elevator has caused a lot of inconvenience for everyone's travel.
A staff member of the property management company of the residential area stated that they have already received feedback from multiple residents regarding this matter. They are currently discussing solutions, and related work is ongoing.
