The website requires the winner to fill in detailed information. The dialog box shows that the captcha has passed. A special statement dialog box pops up on the webpage. The website indicates a fee of 2700 yuan for handling charges.
China Network, February 3rd (Reporter Chen Xundi) During the Spring Festival, many people use the guise of popular TV show production teams. The blind brothers who raised an abandoned baby for 14 years once worked in a brick kiln to earn milk powder money. They send "winning messages" containing phishing website links, luring netizens into phishing websites to carry out fraud. Fraudulent text messages under the guise of TV programs such as "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" have been spreading wildly before the Spring Festival.
Today, I received a text message from the "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" production team. The message claims high cash prizes and gifts. The content of the text message is as follows: Hello! You have become a lucky viewer of the "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" program, winning 78,000 yuan and an Apple MacBook. Please open www.ctwn2012.com, verification code 8168."
According to the website provided in the text message, I opened the so-called "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" homepage. The page layout indeed resembles the official website of "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala". Not only does it display host Dong Qing's photo, but it also features video clips of the program playing on a loop. It even includes a link to the notary office's website, where you can see pictures of relevant certificates such as the program fee license. According to the introduction on the webpage, this is a sincere thank-you program launched by the "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" program during the New Year and Spring Festival, facing all mobile phone users. Moreover, the prizes are abundant, with one grand prize winner receiving a super prize of 580,000 yuan.
I entered some random captcha codes in the input box in a prominent position on the webpage, and they all prompted that the captcha was incorrect. After entering the captcha "8168" mentioned in the text message, the website showed "Your captcha has passed. Congratulations! You have won the second prize in the 'Double Gift Package' activity, and will receive a surprise bonus of 78,000 yuan (cash) and an Apple MacBook sent by the 'I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala' team." After clicking "OK" below the dialog box, the website then prompted me to fill in personal information such as ID number, name, mobile phone number, and bank account number.
I randomly filled in related false names and information, clicked submit, and a special statement dialog box popped up, requiring a transfer of 2700 yuan within two hours to a specified bank account. It explained that the 2700 yuan was actually a handling fee, including 120 yuan for transferring the bonus, 80 yuan for mailing the prize, and 2500 yuan for insurance of the bonus and prize, which would not be refunded. If no contact was made with the staff, it would be considered as automatic abandonment. The system would automatically sue the information on the filled-out form to the local court, demanding compensation from the user ranging from 5000 to 10,000 yuan for breach of contract.
The webpage also listed remittance accounts and payee names for Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, Postal Savings Bank, along with customer service telephone numbers, but this number could not be dialed through.
Subsequently, I logged into the official website of the "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" program and noticed that there was already a clear warning on the official website. It reminded the audience to be vigilant and carefully distinguish between true and false information regarding the recent spread of "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" winning information via text messages, networks, online banking, etc. It is understood that the current prizes for each episode of the "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" program only include tablet computers (at the end of the year, "Sunny Maldives Tour" and sunny travel insurance prizes will be added), with no cash rewards except for these, all of which are free, methods for treating hemorrhoids.
According to data released by the 360 Security Center, Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou were the hardest-hit areas for spam messages during the Spring Festival, intercepting more than 1.4 billion spam messages. Among all categories of spam messages, fraudulent messages accounted for the highest proportion, exceeding 40%. Among them, especially the lottery-type fraudulent messages under the guise of "I Want to Go on the Spring Festival Gala" accounted for nearly 30% of all fraudulent messages.
In the face of such frequent information fraud, how should the public respond? Staff members of the China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Center told reporters that when the public receives junk emails or illegal emails, they can directly call the reporting center hotline 010-12321. The hotline for each province's reporting center is the provincial capital area code plus 12321. They can also directly report to the Anti-Spam Center mailbox of the China Internet Association ([email protected]) or forward the email as an attachment to the center's reporting mailbox, which will be forwarded to the Anti-Spam Center. If the public receives junk SMS on their mobile phones, they can directly report it to the local 110 hotline.
