Shi Xiang Lake Introduction
Shi Xiang Lake is located at the 86-kilometer exit of the Chengya Expressway, within the boundaries of Pujiang County in Chengdu, a national-level ecological demonstration zone. Shi Xiang Lake boasts an abundance of natural resources, with vast ecological parks serving as a paradise where animals and plants coexist harmoniously. It is a sanctuary for urban dwellers seeking to cultivate their minds and bodies. In the early morning, mist shrouds the lake surface, accompanied by bird songs and floral fragrances; during sunset, green shadows layer upon the forest, while Confucianism and Buddhism permeate the soul. This place offers visitors a cleansing experience, leading them into the highest realm of harmony between heaven and humanity.
Shi Xiang Lake Scenic Spots
Shi Xiang Lake gets its name from the ancient temple Shi Xiang Temple located near the lake, which is said to be the place where the great general Yan Yan ascended to heaven riding an elephant during the Three Kingdoms period. Within the lake area lies the Shi Xiang Temple and a 15-meter seated statue known as the "Great Buddha of Western Sichuan." Other attractions include Ziyanyan (Purple Swallow Rock), Waterbird Bay, Fuling Bay, Pearl Island, Qinglong Island, Gong Gou (Bow Ditch), Wawa Gou (Doll Ditch), Erlong Xi Zhu (Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl), among others. The forest coverage rate within the scenic area reaches over 90%, making its pristine natural ecology akin to a piece of jade embedded on the Chengdu Plain. Over the years, those who have visited Shi Xiang Lake express various perspectives and feelings. Some describe it as the "Ocean of Flowers, Paradise of Vision," others call it the "Little Switzerland of the East, Little Holland of Asia, China's Davos, Chengdu's Imperial Garden," and some even praise it as a "Land of Dreams, Land of Comfort, Haven for Human Habitation."
Features of Shi Xiang Lake
Over the years, people visiting Shi Xiang Lake have shared diverse views based on their different perspectives. Some say Shi Xiang Lake is the "Ocean of Flowers, Paradise of Vision," others label it the "Little Switzerland of the East, Little Holland of Asia, China's Davos, Chengdu's Imperial Garden," and some acclaim it as a "Land of Dreams, Land of Comfort, Haven for Human Habitation." In 2002, after the chairman inspected the lake, he praised the development and construction of the scenic area for "absorbing advanced foreign experiences while promoting Chinese cultural traditions." Numerous accolades abound. Thousands of households and countless words summarize the main features as follows:
Feature One: Shi Xiang Lake is a fairyland-like aquatic labyrinth. The beauty of Shi Xiang Lake first manifests in its lake and mountain scenery. Named after the Shi Xiang Temple on the lakeside, which commemorates the famous general Yan Yan of the Three Kingdoms period, the lake is characterized by its small but exquisite size and clear water. Covering an area of 800 mu (about 132 acres), the lake has numerous bays that are winding and deep, with nine gullies and eighteen forks, each fork containing eighteen gullies, mysterious and unique in charm. Visitors often lose their way when boating, creating a natural "aquatic labyrinth." Surrounded by ten thousand mu of primeval forest, hidden beneath green foliage and flowers, taking a wu peng boat ride through the lake feels like entering a fairyland or a painting. Mountains emerge from the water, flowers reflect symmetrically across the blue waters, people sit on boats, cloud reflections drift below, shimmering ripples, gentle songs drift, morning mists envelop lush greenery, evening sounds of returning birds fill the air, offering endless enjoyment.
Feature Two: Shi Xiang Lake is the first high-quality scenic spot to organically integrate the original ecological environment with flowers. As soon as visitors enter the Shi Xiang Lake Ecological Scenic Area, they notice a distinct feature—flowers bloom profusely here. These flowers are not grown in greenhouses or flower pots but are planted amidst tree clusters and lawns. The flowers at Shi Xiang Lake grow naturally in their environment, differing significantly from urban flower exhibitions and greenhouse cut flower production. Shi Xiang Lake adheres to two fundamental concepts regarding flower cultivation: First, the stage for flowers' performance is originally in nature. A flower can only fully develop and display its purest beauty and charm before humans when it returns to the fields and mountains where it has grown for millions of years, thriving in an excellent original ecological environment. Second, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature, enjoying grandiose, diverse, colorful, and immaculate floral feasts amidst pure mountains and waters. The trees and forests at Shi Xiang Lake are naturally formed, not artificially created. The flowers here bloom in the natural world, seamlessly integrating the original ecological environment with flowers. Thus, entering Shi Xiang Lake is akin to entering nature, personally experiencing the harmony between humans and flowers, humans and nature, and humans with each other.

Feature Three: Shi Xiang Lake is a unique natural wild "Plant Kingdom" and a "Natural Classroom" for "Plant Diversity Protection." When Sichuan Province and Chengdu City selected environmental education bases focusing on "Plant Diversity Protection," after extensive public voting and repeated expert inspections and evaluations, official documents were issued recognizing Shi Xiang Lake Ecological Scenic Area as the "Sichuan Environmental Education Base" and "Chengdu Environmental Protection Education Base." Someone might ask, why was Shi Xiang Lake chosen over other places despite Sichuan having abundant trees and forests? Why? Because compared to plants in other regions of Sichuan, the plants at Shi Xiang Lake possess more knowledge, fun, readability, and environmental practice educational value.
