Our reporter (Nightline reporting team) - At 10 p.m. last night, outside the Chongwenmen Station of Subway Line 2, a man in his sixties was found lying dead on the roadside. In another unrelated incident, a 6-year-old boy saved his 11-year-old companion from drowning. According to police, the elderly man died from stab wounds and the case is currently under investigation.
At around 11 p.m., when the reporter arrived at the scene, an elderly man with white hair was seen lying motionless about ten meters away from the subway exit. He was wearing all black clothing and there was a bicycle lying next to him.
Five or six police cars were parked outside the northwest entrance of the subway station. The police had set up a cordon line over forty meters long at the scene.
According to emergency personnel, the fallen man showed no signs of life.
On the sidewalk west of the subway station, bloodstains extended for over forty meters before stopping at a lane intersection.
The owner of a nearby liquor store said that at 10 p.m. last night, he saw the elderly man riding his bicycle past, then suddenly falling outside the subway station entrance.
"After I left my shop, I saw people gathered around making phone calls to report the incident, but no one knew how he got injured," the liquor store owner said.
Another onlooker told reporters that the man was stabbed at the lane entrance, suffering multiple stab wounds to his body and arms. After stabbing the victim, the assailant fled westward. A passerby reported the crime and several eyewitnesses have been taken by the police to assist with the investigation.
Reporter Follow-up
The identity of the deceased has yet to be determined, preventing notification of the family.
More than ten policemen arrived at the scene last night to conduct investigations.
One of the policemen said that the deceased man was approximately sixty years old and likely died from being stabbed during a conflict, sustaining multiple stab wounds.
As no valid identification was found on the man's body, the police were unable to notify his family.
The police speculated that since the deceased was pushing a bicycle, he might be a resident of the nearby area.
The reporter noticed that surveillance cameras were installed at the incident intersection, and the police also indicated that they would look for clues about the suspect from the surveillance footage.
As of midnight today, the family of the deceased man had not been located, and the police were still investigating the matter.
