On October 9, inside the inpatient department of Daping Hospital in Chongqing, 84-year-old Mr. Lu Chaosen tightly held the hands of the two women and kept expressing his gratitude.
After a week of treatment in the hospital, Mr. Lu Chaosen's high blood pressure has decreased, and he is out of danger. In front of his rescuers, his voice was clear and loud, but the multiple scars on his forehead, corners of his eyes, and face still vividly reminded everyone of the severity of his fall.
At around 5 PM on October 2, with light rain drizzling continuously in Chongqing, Mr. Lu Chaosen exited a teahouse near Huangjue Garden in Jiulongpo District, umbrella in hand, preparing to go home. He had only walked a few dozen meters when he suddenly felt dizzy and weak in his legs, falling onto the cement road, instantly bleeding profusely from his face. At that very moment, 37-year-old He Ying and 27-year-old Zheng Fenli happened to pass by. Without hesitation, they rushed forward to help the old man up and supported him to a wooden bench.
He Ying and Zheng Fenli wiped the blood off the old man’s head while asking for his home address and telephone number, intending to send him home. However, the old man was already unconscious. Realizing that the old man’s condition couldn’t wait, He Ying immediately called 110 for help. A few minutes later, nearby traffic patrol officer Dai Haolian and auxiliary staff Huang Lin arrived, using a police car to send the old man to the hospital. The two didn’t even leave their names before turning and leaving.
"My father has repeatedly instructed us to thank those who saved him!" Mr. Lu Chaosen’s daughter, Lu Yuping, told reporters, "Nowadays, there is much debate in society about whether one should help an elderly person who has fallen. In order to interview He Ying and Zheng Fenli, who helped the elderly man, the reporter tracked them down through the police report records.
