The scene of the incident - According to reports by Southern Metropolitan Daily reporter Chen Lewei, a young woman was held hostage by a muscular man outside the Luohu train station building in Shenzhen! Five male passengers came to the rescue and saved the woman. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon. Both the police and eyewitnesses said that the man who held the hostage was muttering nonsense and suspected to have mental problems. No casualties were reported in this event.

The scene remained calm despite the tension. Passenger service agent Chen Juqi told Southern Metropolitan Daily reporters afterwards that a young man was shouting that someone was chasing him. The reporter later learned from the police station that the man's surname is Xiao, he is 25 years old, and hails from Xiangfan, Hubei. A relevant person from the train station mentioned that at the time of the incident, the man tried to rush into the train station entrance but was stopped by railway staff and student-police.

Mr. Liu and his friend Miss Jiang were preparing to take a train out of Shenzhen when they arrived at the waiting room entrance and witnessed the man run about six or seven meters away from the waiting hall, where he seized a young woman wearing a down jacket. They saw the man holding a bicycle chain, attempting to loop it around the woman’s neck. However, a quick-handed man standing next to the woman blocked the chain, preventing it from being tightened. Mr. Liu took advantage of the situation and rushed forward with four other passengers, rescuing the innocent woman from the man's grasp.

After a while, the police arrived in a car. The man swung the chain towards the approaching policemen and onlookers, but due to excessive force, the chain slipped out of his hand and flew away. Everyone, including the policemen, quickly swarmed over and subdued the man.

Staff alerted the authorities

"We didn't see any station staff intervene when we stepped in to save her. Only one station staff member stood two or three meters away inside the glass door of the waiting room," said Mr. Liu, who is 37 years old and works as a teacher in a university.

A passenger service agent surnamed Chen said he witnessed the entire process. He mentioned that he had informed a female police officer patrolling inside the hall, followed by chaos outside the hall. He then saw several passengers engaging with the man, and shortly after, the police arrived and took the man away. Another female staff member from the waiting hall claimed that since the train station square falls under the jurisdiction of the port police station, the staff immediately notified the police via radio after the incident occurred.
