In 1997, a residential complex in Chongqing began installing smart home systems. At that time, the American Moore terminology "CDT (Customer Digital Terminal - User Data Terminal)" was adopted. The residential area covered 400,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 800,000 square meters and over 7,000 units. The smart home system utilized the family intelligent terminal from the American Moore company, including anti-theft alarms (such as video intercoms, door magnetic switches, infrared probes, emergency assistance buttons, etc.), gas leakage detection, security patrols, closed-circuit television monitoring, and an automatic meter reading system for three utilities (tap water, direct drinking water, and gas).
Through a cable "modem" connected to the wired television network, residents were provided with data interfaces up to 10M in speed. Residents could communicate with the management office, participate in community management, enjoy community culture, and gradually access high-speed internet, IP telephones, and digital video services. This largely achieved the "triple play" integration of data, voice, and video services. After activation, a subscription-based fee structure was implemented: a one-time charge of 800 yuan for the terminal device, with a monthly usage fee of 200 yuan.
