According to the news (by correspondent Wang Xinwei), an unlicensed doctor privately delivered a baby in his individual clinic, and then contacted a buyer to sell the newborn baby boy. After the deal was done, he received a gratuity of 4,000 yuan. Recently, defendant Cui Jiantang was sentenced to 10 months in prison for child abandonment by the Haidian Court.

At around 11 PM on July 2, 2009, Cui Jiantang and his wife Li Ruiqin delivered a baby boy for Xu Mou (handled separately) at their unlicensed individual clinic in Xianghuangqi, Haidian District. "This couple said they were poor and couldn't afford to raise the child, so they asked us if we could find someone to buy the child," Cui Jiantang testified, "My wife said she could help them contact someone, but she wanted a gratuity of 4,000 yuan, which they agreed to."

On July 3, Cui Jiantang and his wife introduced Ma Mou and her husband, who ran a hair salon, to Xu Mou. Eventually, both parties agreed to sell the baby boy for 26,000 yuan. Cui Jiantang and his wife profited 4,000 yuan from this transaction and forged one medical birth certificate.

On July 15, after being anonymously reported by the public, the police arrested Li Ruiqin. On December 19, 2010, Cui Jiantang was captured by the police in Zhengzhou, Henan Province.

After deliberation, the court believed that defendant Cui Jiantang colluded with others to broker the sale of another person's child for illegal profit, which constituted an egregious circumstance, and his behavior had already constituted child abandonment. Considering Cui Jiantang's relatively good attitude of confession and repentance after being captured, as well as his lesser role in assisting Li Ruiqin in facilitating the transaction and counting the money, and also considering that the male infant has been returned to his biological mother without causing serious consequences, the court decided to impose a lighter punishment on him according to law.
