On the morning of December 21st last year, Zhang entered a village in Changping District, climbed over the wall and broke into a house, stealing a laptop, a camera, a shoulder bag, and several packs of cigarettes. He then left on an unlocked bicycle as if nothing had happened. He hid the computer in the grass by the roadside, threw the camera into a garbage can nearby, and then went to an internet cafe to surf the internet. After leaving the cafe, he also discarded the bicycle. On the 26th of the same month, Zhang once again climbed over the wall and entered this villager's home, stealing two public transportation cards, a shopping card from the Guotai Mall, a yellow metal ring, a multi-functional fruit knife, and a set of car keys with remote control from the living room. Afterwards, Zhang rode away on an unlocked electric bike that was in the courtyard. This time, he didn't abandon the bike but sold it for 300 yuan to a scrap recycling station.

According to the report (by reporter Yuan Guoli), Zhang broke into a house to steal, discarding all the stolen items including the laptop and camera, yet considered a mall shopping card a treasure, using it for shopping until he was caught on the spot. Yesterday, I learned from the Changping Procuratorate that Zhang has been approved for arrest on suspicion of theft.

When the villagers discovered the theft, they called to inquire about their Guotai prepaid card and found out that there were two consumption records after the card was stolen, so they reported it lost and filed a police report. Subsequently, the mall held a meeting to inform cashiers and other employees about the incident. On the afternoon of January 7th this year, when Zhang used this shopping card to shop at Guotai Mall, the cashier recognized the card as the one reported lost a few days ago, and thus lied that the card had no magnetic strip and needed to be recharged on the 4th floor to keep Zhang steady while notifying the police. Zhang was subsequently caught on the spot.
